I wish you could learn that being black is about the color of your skin. That it’s about having no family tree and no history because beyond your great-grandparents nobody knows where you came from, because slave ships took everyone to different places. That it’s about being the most commonly stopped, frisked, and profiled people on the planet. That it’s about a black boy who has trouble in school and occasionally did drugs being seen as an aggressor and the instigator of his own murder, when a white man who shoots up a daycare full of children or a movie theater full of innocent people is a “misunderstood loner” who could have been rescued by proper mental health treatment and garners a fucking FANDOM on tumblr. I wish to god you could experience the oppression and humiliation suffered by my mother, my grandmother, my aunts and uncles and cousin and brother, so the words “being black is about” never fall out of your goddamn mouth ever again.

You stay the fuck away from my culture and my people. You don’t deserve us. You don’t understand us. You want to wear us like a hat and then throw us away when something trendier comes along, and I did not fucking sign up for that.
